Wilson Residents Say It's Like Living on an Island

Posted Updated

WILSON — There is so much water on Wilson streets, people say it is like living on an island.

Contentnea Creek is beating up the bridge at Highway 301 South. Earlier Friday, the water was going over the bridge. That bridge will not be open until Sunday at the earliest.

In the Willow Springs subdivision, people are having to get out of their houses and into boats. Between 25 and 30 houses are in the water. Some people had to leave from the second floor of their houses.

Lake Wilson Road, like many others, is also a mess, and part of that road is gone. About 20 feet was scooped out by the river.

To dispell any rumors in Wilson, city officials said theywill notrelease water from the Buckhorn Dam. Many people were worried that they would release water from that dam.

Also, the city water is still safe to drink.

Highway 264 West toward Raleigh is open as of Friday evening.
