CAMERON — For two days, divers have been searching a pond off Cameron Hill Road, hoping to find evidence in last weekend's murder of a mother and her child.

Last Saturday morning, 7-year-old Sharita Rivera and her mother, Patrice, were found dead. Sharita had been run over repeatedly by a car on Cameron Hill Road; her mother was found in their home with multiple stab wounds.

A neighbor, Quincey Marquies Amerson, has been charged in the child's death. So far no one has been charged in the mother's murder.

Darrell Adams, one of the investigators, said the entire pond will be searched. He said teams would be doing a "slow sweep" over the bottom.

Conducting the search is a challenge; the water is extremely murky. Adams said visibility is only several inches.

Divers, however, have underwater detection equipment that can help them locate objects.

They also have to contend with 6 to 12 inches of silt.
