FAYETTEVILLE — A missing persons case has taken a bizarre turn. William Mitchell of High Point had been missing since July 14th. He has been found -- in the hospital, following a car wreck.
Highway patrol officers say Mitchell led them on a high speed chase in Fayetteville Saturday night.
They later caught up with him in Johnston County.
Troopers say that at one point Mitchell drove in excess of 90 miles per hour in the wrong direction.
Troopers say Mitchell lost control of his car and hit a guard rail, just north of the I-40/I-95 interchange. The car split in half.
Charges are pending.
