Maid Found Dead in Hotel Room, Murder Suspected

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE — A hotel maid was found dead in one of the rooms at the Budget Inn Sunday afternoon.

Police say the worker went to clean Room 414. Several hours later when she did not come out, her co-workers got worried.

The victim is identified as Christine Harvey Simpson, 40, of Fayetteville.

Simpson's cleaning cart was still outside the door when a co-worker found her body inside the bedroom.

"The cause of death at this time is undetermined," said Sgt. Roberto Rivera of the Fayetteville Police Department Sunday evening. "There are several possibilities at how she could have died or been killed."

Hotel guests were shocked and consoled each other as police searched the room and knocked on bedroom doors searching for answers.

Police say Simpson may have been sexually assaulted, but they are still trying to find out exactly what happened.

Police are also looking into whether a stabbing at the same hotel several hours later is related to the murder. That victim, James Bridges, 28, is hospitalized in good condition.
