<b>LUMBERTON</b> — A Lumberton man is scheduled for his first court appearance today, in connection with a charge of first-degree murder.

Timothy Smith, 31, was arrested over the weekend. He faces first-degree murder and burglary charges in the stabbing death of 72-year-old Ethel Mae Todd.

Her body was discovered a week ago, dumped alongside a road a few miles from her Lumberton home.

Authorities say her home had also been burglarized.
