(AP) — Rescuers raced Saturday to search for survivors and help hundreds of people left homeless after a powerful tornado cut a devastating path through Mississippi, killing at least 25 people, injuring dozens, and flattening entire blocks as it carved a path of destruction for more than an hour. One person was killed in Alabama.

<b>MOCKSVILLE</b> — Misdemeanor charges against a midwife who was working without a license were dropped Thursday on a technicality. The Davie County judge said the warrant was improperly written.

Amy Medwin has attended 750 births in Davie County since 1979.

By law in North Carolina midwives must be certified nurses. Medwin does have a national midwife certification, but is not a nurse.

District attorney Rob Taylor says he intends to re-file the warrant.
