Military Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Raleigh

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Military investigators don't yet know what brought down a helicopter in Knightdale. The emergency landing was a big surprise at Raleigh East Airport.

The Air Force C-H 53-chopper had some sort of engine problem and was forced to land. No one was injured. Witnesses say the helicopter dumped fuel onto the ground during the emergency landing.

"We don't know that they intentionally dumped the fuel," said an investigator. "It may have been a mechanical problem with the unit itself that dumped the fuel."

Wake County Air Quality officials are expected to check out the site to and make sure the fuel spill did not cause any environmental damage.
