Robber Takes a Bite Out of 20 Subway Shops

Posted Updated

CHAPEL HILL — A crime wave hitting the Triangle the past few months has one big item on the menu, Subway sandwich shops.

Police believe that the same person may be responsible for terrorizing 20 shops in our area.

Ross Charkesht's Subway store in Chapel Hill is a little low on the bread these days. In the past two weeks the store's registers were cleaned out twice by an armed robber.

"He didn't take much money," owner Charkesht said. "But that makes you mad because you don't know if you're safe or not anymore here."

Chapel Hill Police said that surveillance video from the two Subway robberies have a lot in common.

The store clerk held up in both robberies told his boss that the second time the gunman hit the subway, he even boasted that he had been there before.

Another victim of the armed robberies hopes police can do something about this fast.

"He just asked for the money," restaurant owner Rewat Seepolmuang said. "He said give me all the money. I said go ahead take it, that's all I got."

Chapel Hill Police are offering up to a $1,200 reward for anyone with information that could lead to an arrest in these robberies.

Chapel Hill Police added that a white compact four door vehicle was seen near the location of several of these robberies. Anyone with information should call Chapel Hill Crimestoppers at 919-968-2846.
