1 Killed, 1 Injured in Rocky Mount Crash

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — One person died and a second was injured when a car went out of control on Raleigh Road early Sunday and crashed into a tree, police said.

A passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver taken to Nash General Hospital and then flown to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Police did not release either person's identity, and the driver's condition was not known.

The car was headed west in the 600 block of Raleigh Road at high speed, police said. The driver apparently lost control and the car slid off the road and struck the tree, officers said.
