RALEIGH — A Triangle man was sentenced to death Tuesday by a Wake County jury for chasing down his wife in her car and shooting her to death.

The jury got Allen Holman's case late Monday, deliberating for about two hours before going home for the day. The jury returned this morning and came back with a verdict after noon.

Holman, 39, admitted he chased his 49-year-old wife of seven years, Linda, and shot her in front of an Apex convenience store last year. Linda Holman made a 9-1-1 call as her husband chased her car south on N.C. 55 at speeds up to 85 mph. Apex police chased Allen Holman's car, but Holman lost the officer. Holman came back to the convenience store and shot his wife in the back twice with a shotgun.

After the shooting, Holman returned to the house the couple rented. He held police at bay, firing shots at officers before shooting himself in the stomach.

He told the court that he had no remorse. Holman initially wanted to tell jurors this, but he later changed his mind.
