They Hammed It Up at State Fairgrounds

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — They were serving up am -- and lots of it -- at the state fairgrounds in Raleigh today.

More than 4000 amateur radio operators gathered for the annual Raleigh Hamfest.

It was a chance to talk -- in person -- about emergency communication procedures and to check out the latest equipment.

The event was also a chance for hams of all ages to test their skill in using Morse code.

Amateur radio operators say they often have the most reliable means of communication during weather emergencies and natural disasters.
