FAYETTEVILLE — The Cumberland County Department of Transportation decided to shut down Cumberland Road, one of the area's busiest roads, in order to add a fifth lane.
The road will be closed until Monday, and motorist will have to take detours which adds 15 to 30 minutes extra driving time.
The quickest detour will be Boone Trial to Owen Drive and then back to Cumberland road.
Some local store owners and motorist are upset over the closing because it will hurt business and add time to the drive into Fayetteville.
