The Calendar Says March, but It Feels Like May

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Spring is in full bloom here in the Triangle. Everywhere you look, people are doing some spring planting or just enjoying the warm weather. Many took it easy Sunday at area parks and lakes.

The calendar says March, but it feels more like the middle of May. And what makes it even better is that it comes after two of the wettest months on record. With the mercury reaching into the 80's, people took the plunge at Jordan Lake, just kicking back and soaking up the sun.

"I'm always ready for the sun," said Janie Yates.. "I get so pale in the winter, and the first thing I said was 'I gotta get sun on my face,' and I did.

It's easy to tell Spring fever has hit the Triangle just by looking at the mall. Usually it's packed, but on a day like today you pretty much have your pick of parking places.

Parks and garden centers are a different story. The bumper to bumper traffic wasn't just outside, but inside as well. The planting frenzy even seemed to catch the salesmen off guard.

Gardners didn't miss a beat as they loaded up mounds of mulch. Some even managed to get the whole family into the act. Most people just wanted to take advantage of a beautiful weekend day.

Days like Sunday somehow seem to bring out the best in all of us.
