Troopers believe the weather played a role in a deadly crash in Johnston County.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Troopers believe the weather played a role in a fatal crash in Johnston County.

A speeding car hydroplaned on Brogden Road east of Smithfield Friday afternoon and hit another car in oncoming traffic.

A woman riding in the car that was hit died, while two others were critically injured. A passenger in the speeding car suffered head injuries.

Investigators said charges are pending in the collision.
