Morrisville Opposes FedEx Hub at RDU

Posted Updated

MORRISVILLE — In a unanimous vote Monday night, Morrisville Town Commissioners passed a resolution opposing the location of a Federal Express package sorting hub at RDU International airport. Others in the Triangle had recently criticized the town of Cary for opposing the hub.

Those who oppose it cite noise, safety and other factors as reasons they don't want the facility. The RDU Airport Authority, which has already voted to pursue FedEx's plans, says the hub would bring in 600 to 800 jobs initially, and as many as 1,500 over the next few years. They say there would be some full-time jobs in addition to high-wage part-time positions.

"We've been to good good of a neighbor for them to do that to us," said Morrisville Commissioner C.T. Moore, referring to the airport bringing in the hub. Moore sits on the airport's Noise Abatement Committee.

Many have expressed concern that the overnight delivery company would be flying planes in and out all through the night.
