BENSON — An early evening wreck closed westbound lanes of I-40 near Benson on Sunday.

Witnesses say a Chevy Blazer was traveling east on I-40 near the 322 milemarker around 5:45 p.m. when the driver lost control, crossed the median and hit a mini-van and a Subaru.

Five people were taken to Wake Medical Center.

The highway patrol identified the occupants of the mini-van as Diane Arthur, 45; Theresa Arthur, 19; and Timothy Arthur, 16, all of Dunn.

The Blazer's occupants were identified as Mark Johnson, 39, and Paula Schindler, 41, both of Fayetteville.

Injuries to all were said to be multiple broken bones.

Highway Patrol troopers say bad weather did not cause the three-car wreck.
