Apex Carjacking Stuns Community

Posted Updated

APEX — A carjacking in Apex has a lot of people worried. Police say the suspect is also wanted in two other states.

According to police, a Thursday night crime spree ended at the intersection of US 64 and Highway 55.

The spree began at the Kroger on Highway 64 in Apex around 8:30 p.m., when police say they saw a stolen car in the parking lot. They say the suspect, Carl Douglas Consolvo saw police and took off on foot, and went to a house in the Knollwood subdivision where he knocked on the door. When the resident, Bill Livesay, wouldn't let him in, police say Consolvo kicked in the door. Livesay says the man entered the house waving a gun, demanding the keys to a van parked in the driveway.

Police say Consolvo took off in Livesay's van and drove to the intersection of Highways 55 and 64, where he carjacked another vehicle, shooting an elderly man.

Consolvo is described as a 6' 1" white male weighing between 180 and 200 pounds. He has long, sandy-blond hair, which he sometimes wears in a ponytail. An FBI agent said Consolvo speaks with a stutter.

Consolvo is wanted by the FBI for fleeing to avoid prosecution. He is wanted in Texas, Virginia and North Carolina for what police say is a string of crimes including rape and carjacking.

Officials say Consolvo is to be considered armed and dangerous, and that anyone seeing him should call law enforcement rather than attempt to approach him.

Consolvo's current whereabouts are unknown.
