Deputies from the Chatham County Sheriff's Office noticed a car on the side of
Gulf Road near U.S. 421
on Wednesday afternoon.
Sheriff's deputies stopped to check the car on the side of the road and found a man and a woman having sex, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
Officers smelled the odor of marijuana and began an investigation.
The sheriff's narcotics unit searched the car and found 14.8 grams of cocaine and 31.7 grams of marijuana. Deputies also found $2,500 in cash in the car.
Deputies arrested Jerome Johnson, 34, of 508 Make Peace Street in Sanford and Shernika Brinkley, 32, of 109 South 3rd Street in Sanford and charged them with felonious possession of cocaine, felonious possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felonious possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Johnson was jailed under a $10,000 bond. Brinkley was jailed under a $5,000 bond. They are scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Friday.
