MT. OLIVE, N.C. — The most famous cucumber in Mt. Olive got a makeover before it ushers in 2006.
The Mount Olive pickle used in the annual Pickle Drop was once adorned with more than 100 tiny white lights. This year it will simply glow.
Maintenence crews were worried strong winds might break the lights, so they put them all inside the 3 1/2-foot pickle.
The new pickle makes its debut next Saturday. It drops at the stroke of 7 p.m., which is midnight Greenwich Mean Time.
