Monday A Busy Day For Triangle Post Offices

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Haven't mailed your holiday cards or packages yet? Better hurry.

Each year, the United Sates Postal Service handles 20 billion holiday mail items between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Monday, which was the last day to send mail for First-Class Mail delivery before Christmas, was expected to be the busiest mailing day of the holiday season with about 900 million pieces of mail being processed.

Many post offices were scheduled to stay open later than normal to accommodate customers.

But as the clock ticks and lines grow at post offices all across the Triangle area, many customers are avoiding the lines by going online to print postage labels and to schedule pick-ups.

Postal officials say Christmas gifts and cards can still get to recipients by Christmas Day by using Priority Mail and Express Mail services.

Carriers will be making deliveries on Christmas Day.
