DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police have charged a man with various assault charges after they say he stabbed his girlfriend in a parking lot last week.

George Willie Aydlett, 40, of 402 North Hyde Park Ave. was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault by strangulation and assault on a female after an incident on Dec. 7, police said.

While Aydlett's girlfriend was trying to end a relationship with him, police said he became very angry and pulled out a knife then cut the woman's throat.

During the struggle inside the vehicle, the woman grabbed his hand which held the knife and then Aydlett began to choke her with his other hand, police said.

The victim was able to exit the vehicle and fell to the ground. Aydlett then kicked the victim twice in the head, robbing her of cash and other items before taking the her vehicle and fleeing the scene, police said.

Aydlett was arrested on Dec. 11 after a four-day search.
