Parents, Wayne County School Board Debate Renovations

Posted Updated

WAYNE COUNTY — School buildings across the state need work, and parents often feel left out of the process.

Some parents at Brogden Middle School say the school should get money to improve peeling paint and other age-related problems. The school board says there is just not enough money right now. Just a few years ago, it spent nearly $3 million on the campus.

"We are not asking for them to ignore the other needs in the county. We are just asking them to put us first this time," says parent Tina Blackman.

"I feel like we have done a good job with the money, and have met most needs than most people could with what we did receive," says Lehman Smith, chairman of the Wayne County school board.

The board will take another look at its long-term goals next month. A bond referendum may be suggested as a possible solution.
