Mother, Daughter Killed In Wilson County Accident

WILSON COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities still did not know Sunday evening what happened to cause a driver to lose control of the van she was driving Sunday morning that ended with two people dead.

At about 9:50 a.m., Wilson authorities said Tammie Petteys, 43, of Fountains, N.C., lost control of her Ford van on N.C. Highway 301, near Elm City, crossed the median and struck head-on a Dodge Durango traveling south on Highway 301. Petteys' 19-year-old daughter, Candy Petteys, was also killed

The driver of the Dodge Durango, 53-year-old Cassandra Brown, of Rocky Mount, was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. She is expected to recover, authorities said.
