CAMERON, N.C. — The owner of a Lee County sawmill said his business was a total loss after a fire ravaged it Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the fire at

Brookswood Limited, 7119 Jefferson Davis Highway, Cameron

, near Sanford, at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday. At about 2:30 p.m., the fire was under control, but additional fire crews from Lee, Harnett and Moore counties were requested to help fight the fire. It was put out at about 6:30 p.m.

The sawmill's owner, Archie Brooks, told WRAL that he estimated about $250,000 to $500,000 in damage. Brooks said he has no insurance, but that he does plan to rebuild.

While there is no official cause on the fire, Brooks thought the fire started in the east end of the building near a wood shavings pile.

There were no injuries.

Brookswood Limited manufactures flooring and molding and works a lot with antique wood.
