ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Local and state authorities are investigating the death of a worker at one of Edgecombe County's largest employers.

The worker, a technician service contractor for FKI Logistex, was working with a crane Thursday morning at the QVC warehouse near Rocky Mount when he was in an accident.

His identity was not immediately released, pending notification of next-of-kin.

"We're very sorry. It's a tragic event for us and we're very concerned about him.and his family and our employees as they go through this," said QVC spokeswoman Wanda Durham.

The auto store and retrieval section of the warehouse, where the victim was killed, was shut down while authorities investigate the death.

The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office said an autopsy would be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

The plant, which opened in August 2000, has about 1,800 full time and seasonal workers. A company official said Thursday's death was the first fatal accident at the site.
