Posted Updated

NASH COUNTY, N.C.Editor's Note: Charges against Hattley Deans were dropped Nov. 26, 2007 after the teen admitting making up the allegations.

Investigators said Tuesday that there might be more victims and more charges in a case against a Nash County teacher's assistant accused of taking indecent liberties with a 14-year-old.

Hattley Deans, 38, is charged with a felony sex offense, taking indecent liberties with a child and statutory rape.

Investigators said the incident happened at Deans' home in Sharpsburg. They said that after school, Deans tutored and mentored several Nash County children and detectives believe the victim was one of them.

School officials confirmed that at the time of his arrest, Deans was a teacher's assistant, hired in January 2004, at Southern Nash Middle School, but would not confirm whether he was still employed. The Nash County School System's attorney would not comment on the case.

Deans is being held in the Nash County Jail under $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear again in court Friday for a new bond hearing after his attorney asked the judge to reduce the bond.
