Boy Missing After Shooting Found Safe, Police Say

Pablo Silverio
SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Authorities said that a boy who was missing after a fatal shooting in Smithfield last week was found safe.

Smithfield police said that Pablo Garcia had been with his grandmother since Thursday night. Johnston County investigators thought that 2-year-old Garcia was with Pablo Silverio, who is accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend. Silverio is the child's father.

A baby sitter brought the child to his grandmother's house Thursday night, police said. The grandmother was unaware of the police manhunt for the child's father, police said.

The grandmother contacted the boy's mother this weekend to let her know that her son was OK -- and it was then that the grandmother found out that the boy's father was wanted by police in connection with a homicide.

The mother of the boy tried to contact the Smithfield Police department this weekend, but the mother was dialing the direct number to the investigating officer and did not contact other Smithfield police.

Police are still searching for Silverio, who police said is armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Silverio's whereabouts is asked to contact the Smithfield Police Department at (919) 934-3923.
