Fayetteville Offer: Trade Better Billboards for Fewer

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville is advertising its displeasure—with unsightly billboards.

The city council voted 8-2 Monday evening in favor of a plan that would allow billboard companies to fix up one sign in exchange for permanently removing another one elsewhere in the city.

Planners said they hope the measure would lead to the removal of old billboards that don't meet current standards.

The council said it wants a report in one year on how billboards have been repairs and how many have been removed.
