New I-85 Interchange Leads To Confusion For Drivers

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Engineers with the state Department of Transportation tried to make Interstate 85 safer, but some drivers say they have made it more dangerous.

The Highway 15-501 exit had been a left-turn exit for decades, but over the weekend, crews changed it to a right-turn exit.

There was only one sign that noted the change. Confused drivers zig-zagged all over the interchange.

The DOT is going to add two new flashing message signs. Permanent signs marking the change will soon be added.
