FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Deputies said a 15-year-old student was arrested Tuesday for bringing a handgun and steak knife to a Fayetteville high school.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said the teenager, whose name has not been released because of the student's age, was arrested Tuesday morning at E.E. Smith High School after school officials learned about the weapons from other students.

Deputies said the steak knife and handgun, which had a trigger lock on it, were found inside the student's book bag inside a classroom.

The teenager will be held in the Cumberland County Juvenile Detention Center until a court date, deputies said.
