Some Chatham Residents Urged Not To Drink Water

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — There is a water warning for some people outside the Triangle.

Chatham County residents got notices advising pregnant women and young children not to drink the water because the levels of chlorine dioxide and chlorite are too high.

The chemicals, which are usually disinfectants, can harm the development of children, infants and fetuses.

Testing shows the high levels date back to Aug. 1, but residents were just notified.
