Wake Escapee Back In Custody

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Wake County inmate who escaped from prison is back behind bars.

The Williamston Police Department captured Wake Correctional Center escapee Herbert Spruill Tuesday night.

Spruill did not return from a work assignment Sept. 26. Prison staff started immediately working with local and Martin County law enforcement to try and capture Spruill. The inmate's original sentence for making a bomb threat was handed down in Martin County.

Spruill was scheduled to be released in January 2008, but the escape charges could add up to two years on Spruill's sentence. He is now being held at Guilford Correctional Center.
