Jury Convicts Edgecombe County Man For Wife's Death

EDGECOMBE COUNTY, N.C. — A jury in Edgecombe County convicted a man Thursday of slashing his wife's throat in their home and then setting it on fire.
Lorenzo Pittman claimed his wife, Cassandra, started the violence by hitting him on the head with a hammer.
The jury found Pittman guilty of voluntary manslaughter and first-degree arson. He had faced first-degree murder charges.
Pittman was sentenced to at least 13 years in prison.
