Wedding Goes On In Outer Banks Despite Ophelia

Posted Updated

KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. — Ophelia almost ruined some wedding plans in the Outer Banks this weekend.

WRAL caught up with Mark Garner and Brigette Grillo at a restaurant in Kill Devil Hills, where the couple was having a wedding rehearsal.

Because of Ophelia, most of their family and friends had to postpone their travel to the Outer Banks. Most of the guests arrived Friday and Saturday morning.

The couple tied the knot Saturday evening, but it was a tense week, groom Mark Garner said.

"We've been very concerned for the past week. We've become meteorologists," he said.

When WRAL asked if the couple might consider naming their first child Ophelia, Mark responded: "Probably not."

As for wedding favors, Garner said he and his bride would pass out "I Survived Ophelia" T-shirts to their guests.
