DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham teen who was injured Thursday morning after she was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross a road has died at Duke University Hospital, police said.
The Durham Police Department said 16-year-old Stephanie Burgos was crossing
Guess Road near Horton Road
at about 6:30 a.m. when she was struck by a sport utility vehicle driven by William Lee Bowman, 36.
Burgos was a sophomore at Riverside High School.
Bowman was not injured, police said.
No charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation.
Police said they do not believe speed played a role in the accident. They said it was dark at the time of the accident, and there were no street lights in the area.
