MANTEO, N.C. — A Virginia man died over the weekend after being swept into the ocean by a rip current.
Witnesses said the 37-year-old was standing in waist-deep water with his 3-year-old child when the current took them into the ocean.
It happened this weekend near the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, officials said.
Surfers rescued the child, but a park ranger could not resuscitate the man.
