JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — Think gas prices are tough on your wallet? What about law enforcement officials?

Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell budgeted an extra $100,000 this year to cover rising gas prices, and he is also asking deputies to help.

Deputies are being urged not to drive too far for meal breaks or leave their car idling too long. Bizzell even asked detectives to carpool to crime scenes whenever possible.

The Johnston County Sheriff's Office averages 420 gallons of gas a day, which adds up to more than $21,000 a month.
