DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man charged with killing a teenager cut a deal with prosecutors on Wednesday.

Prosecutors said Lazaro Martinez took 15-year-old Cristin Carter to a Durham motel and gave her cocaine last May. Hours later, the Orange County High School freshman was found dead outside her home.

Authorities said Carter died from an overdose.

Martinez pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and attempted statutory rape. He will spend the next 10 to 13 years behind bars.
