RALEIGH, N.C. — A man has been charged with voluntary manslaughter for an alcohol-related accident that killed a 1-year-old boy Saturday night, Raleigh police said.

According to police, the boy -- John Caro-Trejo -- was playing on a driveway during an outdoor party at

1514 Fayetteville Street

at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday when a car driven by Gerardo Bustamante ran over him.

Police said Bustamante, who resided at the home on Fayetteville Street, had left the party and ran over the boy when he returned.

Bustamante, 29, faces multiple charges, including voluntary manslaughter, driving while under the influence and failure to comply with license restrictions, police said.

He made his first appearance in court Monday where bond was set at $255,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 6.

The suspect had previous DWI convictions, police said.

The relationship between Bustamante and Caro-Trejo was not known.
