Car In Nash County Field
NASH COUNTY, N.C. — One person is dead after an accident on N.C. Highway 581 Friday afternoon, the North Carolina Highway Patrol said.

Two vehicles -- one carrying a mother and her 5-year-old daughter -- collided at the intersection of N.C. 581 and Finch Road.

Both vehicles were overturned; one car landed upside down in a tobacco field, the other landed several yards from the collision.

Authorities said the driver of a Toyota failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a Dodge.

The driver of the Toyota -- 32-year-old Michael Joyner of Bailey, N.C. -- died on the scene.

The two people inside the other car -- 43-year-old Myrtle Watson and 5-year-old Kaitlyn Watson -- were taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Charges have not been filed in the case, and the accident is still under investigation.
