Right now, the BRAC commission's plan is to close Pope Air Force Base and let Fort Bragg run the airfield, but the idea is not taking off just yet.
Commission members are reconsidering what to do with Pope. Two of them will be on base Tuesday. They will meet privately with Pope officials, then with community leaders and the media.
The nine-member panel has more than a month to decide what to do with Pope Air Force Base. The panel will have to submit a final list of closures and realignments to President George W. Bush by Sept. 8.
