RALEIGH, N.C. — A new specialty license plate could help promote a serious safety message.
North Carolina is accepting applications for the new "Share the Road" license plate.
A copy of the application is available at the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Division of Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation's
Web site
or by calling the N.C. DBPT at (919) 733-2804.
Each costs $50 with $20 going toward bicycle education and safety initiatives.
A portion of the sales will be used to provide helmets for disadvantaged children.
Approximately 4 million North Carolinians own a bike.
