TIMBERLAKE, N.C. — Person County authorities recovered two bodies from a pond Monday evening.
At about 7:30 p.m., a rescue crew pulled the body of a man, identified as Jackie McClure, from a pond on Mountain Ridge Road in Timberlake. Emergency workers tried to revive him, but could not.
About 10 minutes later, rescuers recovered the body of Tamala "Tammy" Clayton.
Investigators said McClure had tried to rescue Clayton, who was unable to swim, after she jumped into the pond. They also said that they believe alcohol may have been a factor in both deaths.
Person County Sheriff Dennis Oakley said Clayton's husband and two sons had
died in a fire at the family's Bahama home in October 2004
