DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham Police Department charged a man Saturday with domestic violence and traffic violations after he led officers on a chase with an unwilling female in his car.

The chase began when an off-duty police officer noticed a female calling for help and attempting to jump out of a moving car near Alston and Gann streets.

The officer called in the description of the car and then chased the vehicle from N.C. 55 to I-40.

Other authorities joined in the pursuit until deputies with the Orange County Sheriff's Office stopped the car on I-85.

Durham police have charged Alonzo P. Graves with several misdemeanors and felonies, including second-degree kidnapping, assault on a female, and a felony for fleeing officers.

According to Durham police, the female attempted to jump out of the car on several occasions during the chase and the suspect struck the female at least once.
