ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Attempts to replace a statue of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Rocky Mount are crumbling.
Two Chicago artists wanted $140,000 to make a new sculpture, but town leaders asked them to lower the price.
The artists suggested the town remove the first statue before continuing negotiations.
Residents have argued that the sculpture does not look like Dr. King.
