ESC Could Cut 170 Jobs After State Supreme Court Ruling

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — A recent ruling by the North Carolina Supreme Court could cost nearly 200 people their jobs in the next few months.

The state's highest court recently ruled that North Carolina public schools should receive another $500 million collected from fines and fees that state agencies, such as the Department of Revenue and Department of Transportation, collect.

The Employment Security Commission said it is being asked to pay $6.2 million, which could mean firing 170 employees.
