PITTSBORO, N.C. — On Friday, the new
Highway 64
Bypass is expected to be ready for drivers. It could cut your commute and bring new business to Knightdale, but another town along a different bypass has seen business drop.
Store owners in Pittsboro say when a different Highway 64 Bypass came to that town four years ago, downtown business suffered.
Officials say traffic volume in downtown dropped by thousands cars a day when the bypass opened. However this year, traffic volume has climbed back to where it was before the bypass.
Despite Pittsboro's experience, Knightdale leaders are counting on its bypass to spark development.
