JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — Two people were taken to the hospital after a single-car accident early Saturday morning in Johnston County, the Smithfield Police Department reported.
At about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Shawn Whitman and Tammy Butler drove off the road at the intersection of Barbour Road and Laurel Woods Drive, police said.
Both sustained serious injuries, police said.
Police believe alcohol contributed to the accident.
