CLATYON, N.C. — A registered sex offender who underwent court-ordered therapy has been arrested and charged with raping his girlfriend's 12-year-old daughter.
The Johnston County Sheriff's Office said 39-year-old William Caufman's girlfriend was still living with him when he was charged, but that the girl did not live at the residence.
Caufman, who is in the Johnston County Jail on a $150,000 bond, previously served 20 months in prison after being convicted of taking incident liberties with children in Wake and Chatham counties.
Caufman's girlfriend told WRAL that she did not know about Caufman's previous convictions.
His next court appearance is scheduled for July 21.
