RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina's military leaders will make their case later in June to keep Pope Air Force Base up and running.

Officials will meet with the realignment and closing commission in Charlotte.

That group has sole authority to change the recommendations.

The U.S. Department of Defense suggested reducing personnel at Pope Air Force Base by 4,800 troops and making minor adjustments at other bases in North Carolina.
